Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. It originated from the tale of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and statesman who drowned himself in the Miluo River in protest against corruption. To prevent fish from eating his body, local people threw rice dumplings into the river and raced dragon boats. This festival is marked by dragon boat races, eating zongzi (sticky rice dumplings), and hanging mugwort leaves and calamus to ward off evil spirits.
