Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It is believed to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a loyal minister during the Warring States period (475-221 BC). The festival has its roots in the ancient state of Chu.

The origin of the Dragon Boat Festival can be traced back to the legend of Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River after being exiled and witnessing the fall of his state. The local people launched boats into the river to search for his body, and threw rice into the water to feed the fish and prevent them from attacking his body. This eventually became the practice of dragon boat races and eating zongzi, a traditional sticky rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves.
Today, the Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by many Chinese people with dragon boat races, eating zongzi, wearing a jade amulet, and hanging mugwort leaves and calamus to ward off evil spirits. The festival is a time to honor heroes and remember history, and it is an important part of Chinese cultural heritage.
