The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The festival's origins date back to the Warring States period in ancient China. It is believed that the Dragon Boat Festival commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan served as an important official in the state of Chu during the Warring States period and was later exiled due to the treachery of corrupt officials. During his exile, Qu Yuan was deeply concerned about his country and its people, and he was in despair. On the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River, sacrificing himself for his country. To honor Qu Yuan, local people began to hold dragon boat races and throw zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) into the river, hoping to retrieve his body. Since then, the Dragon Boat Festival has become a day to remember and celebrate Qu Yuan.
